Mayhew International: Meet the people who are transforming the lives of street dogs in Kabul, Afghanistan

AfriPaw runs pet clinic days and large neutering campaigns on a monthly basis in Cape Town. These initiatives give pet owners the chance to become more responsible for their animals, at no added cost. Our donations will help approximately 7,000 animals throughout the year.

AWS runs a veterinarian surgery and organises weekly healthcare outreach clinics in Stellenbosch. Their work is extremely valuable for both stray cats and dogs, and pet owners. With our donation, they'll neuter, de-worm and de-flea 1,500 animals - that's 70% of the animal population in one of the communities in Stellenbosch.

Animal Welfare Society (AWS)

Cluny Animal Trust runs an outreach and educational program in the Free State province. They help to prevent unwanted pregnancies and keep dog populations at a sustainable level. And the numbers don't lie: in the district that Cluny Animal Trust operate in, the confirmed rabid cases are more than 40 times lower than in neighbouring areas.

There are over 80m stray cats and dogs across India and no way to provide care for such a large number of animals. Their welfare is severely impacted. DAR runs a neuter and vaccination programme in a rural area of northeren India, using a 20-year-old van. Our donation will make sure this vehicle is replaced and ensure that their outreach work can be carried out more quickly and efficiently.

Humane Society International are helping to increase access to safe, effective veterinary care for dogs and cats in rural Bolivia & Chile. They aim to tackle the source of overpopulation and prevent suffering today and in the future.

In 2017 our €6000 donation was invested in the intensive care unit, a place for dogs to recover after surgery and for the nursing of sick puppies. Thanks to this life saving unit, more than 450 dogs per year get the treatment they need to survive.

LAW runs a shelter, outreach programme, and clinic. These services have already increased the number of cats and dogs being neutured by 50%. To keep up their work, our donation will replace their current van which is crucial for the outreach programme.

Mayhew International is running a vaccination program in Kabul to eradicate rabies in the city’s dog population – forever. The charity is also organising outreach in schools and the community to improve the relationship between humans and dogs for the long term.

Our donation to Mayhew International will pay for the training of 22 vets in dog and cat care, the construction and equipment for a static clinic - serving as the training base; and all equipment for a pop-up clinic.

In 2019 our substantial €64,238 donation built a brand new clinic with operating theatres, fully kitted out with vital medical equipment. Creating a more hygienic environment to perform surgery and for the dogs to recover safely.

In 2018 our donation of €21,210 funded the build of a fully equipped kitchen, a much safer and more hygienic environment to prepare meals. The kitchen is vital to the stray dogs in the area, where they deliver 1500 fresh meals every day.

PPAWS runs a shelter and education program for pet owners; a training program for vets; and outreach programs offering free or discounted services to the community strays. Our donations will be going towards urgent kennel adaptations and to the neuturing and vaccination of 600 animals.

The Edgard & Cooper community voted to further boost our donation and help PPAWS with their rabies vaccination programme, which will cover over 70% of the dogs in the province.

With the Foundation's donation, PFA will modernise the full clinic and shelter, so that animals can be helped efficiently and effectively, with quicker recovery times. They'll be able to build a new cat and dog house; the update and renovation of the old clinic and pathology lab; and build a living area for an in-house vet, so that they can monitor patients 24/7.

People for Animals

Only 0.5% of dogs in Malawi are vaccinated against rabies, a disease that causes suffering and death for both animals and humans. The Edgard & Cooper Foundation's pledge will cover the vaccinations of 80% of the dog population in one of the 4 districts in Mzimba. 

This charity was chosen to receive a boosted donation that will give Vets Without Borders the chance to plan the 2nd cycle of vaccinations to get one step closer to eradicating rabies in Malawi.
